Early Access Gaming Coming To Xbox One

In what is likely to be quite a divisive announcement Microsoft have revealed that early access gaming is coming to Xbox One, starting with Elite: Dangerous and The Long Dark which are both available right now. DayZ is also going to arrive later this year. Early access is a pretty controversial subject, but has thus far been limited to PC gamers. Many wondered if one of the console manafacturers would be inclined to bring the scheme to their machines. If you have no idea what early access is, it essentially means that you can pay money to play the game while it’s actually still in the process of being developed, the idea being that your money and your input will help create the game. IN reality it can be pretty messy with projects starting but then being mostly abandoned. But yes, plenty of good has come of it to. Smartly Microsoft have decreed that any game using this new system must offer a free, playable demo so that potential customers can see if the game is something they are interested in first.

Destiny's a racing game now too

Destiny, a shooter that everyone was down on in 2014 and then very high on in 2015, isn't just a shooter anymore. It's also a racer. Bet you didn't see that coming.
Sparrow races are going to be a part of Destiny on December 8 in the Taken King add-on. It's free content for anyone who owns that expansion. Although, it's only expected to last for three weeks. Also, new Iron Banner gear will be available for PlayStation players.

It's an interesting and unexpected announcement to be sure. We don't know much about it yet, but we'll see it on the PlayStation Experience show floor. Expect to hear more about it from us before the weekend's over.

Telltale And Marvel Are Partnering Up To Make Games For Console In 2017

There have been lots of partnerships within the world of games, some that were brilliant and some that should have been dropped into a deep dark hole. But this one seems to have been made in some sort of Heaven: Telltale are partnering up with Marvel to make games. Marvel Games creative director Bill Roseman and executive producer Mike Jones turned up at an event in San Francisco today to make the announcement, saying that the games will “strive for authenticity, feel exquisite and sexy, and will be celebrated by Marvel fans.” You’ll need to wait a while, though, because the first of these games apparently won’t arrive until 2017. No other details were revealed, either. Perhaps it’ll revolve around S.H.I.E.L.D., but one can hope for an Avengers themed Telltale game, right? Having said that Telltale would have to up their gameplay style considerably to really suit full-on superheroes, which leads me back down the S.H.I.E.L.D. path.

Star Wars: Battlefront System Requirements Recommend 16GB Of RAM

Via Origin EA have confirmed the system specs needed to run the forthcoming Star Wars: Battlefront. The processor and graphics requirements aren’t all that surprising, but what is surprising is the demand for a minimum of 8GB of RAM, and a recommendation for 16GB. Exactly what the recommended specs are recommended for is anyone’s guess. I remain perplexed as to why companies don’t mention what these specs list are actually based. Is 16GB RAM for people aiming to run in at 4K and 60FPS in the Arctic while summoning Satan in order to force him into somehow thinking hell has indeed frozen over? Also, note the odd listing for Windows 10 under the recommended specs list. Minimum PC System Requirements: OS: 64-bit Windows 7 or later Processor (Intel): Intel i3 6300T or equivalent Memory: 8GB RAM Hard Drive: At least 40GB of free space Graphics card (NVIDIA): nVidia GeForce GTX 660 2GB Graphics card (ATI): ATI Radeon HD 7850 2GB DirectX: 11.0 Compatible video card or equivalent Online Connection Requirements: 512 KBPS or faster Internet connection Recommended PC System Requirements: OS: 64-bit Windows 10 or later Processor (Intel): Intel i5 6600 or equivalent Memory: 16GB RAM Hard Drive: At least 40GB of free space Graphics card (NVIDIA): nVidia GeForce GTX 970 4GB Graphics card (AMD): AMD Radeon R9 290 4GB DirectX: 11.1 Compatible video card or equivalent Online Connection Requirements: 512 KBPS or faster Internet connection

Microsoft Announce Xbox One To Xbox 360 Backwards Compatibility

Microsoft have come out with a surprising announcement today during their E3 conference, revealing that from thus Autumn the Xbox One will be backwards compatible with Xbox 360 games, meaning it can play your old Xbox 360 games. Preview members will be able to try out the system right now. The service will be free and will support 100 titles at launch, including the original Mass Effect which presumably means the entire trilogy will be playable, with more to be added. apparently all developers will need to do is approve their game for backwards compatibility as no extra development will be needed. Digital titles will show up automatically, or you can put in your retail disc to verify ownership. However, you do seemingly need to download the game, even if you’re using a disc. Huh. Considering that a lack of backwards compatibility was a major gripe when the Xbox One was first announce this is a pretty big deal for Microsoft, and may help encourage people who have not upgraded to do so.

Microsoft Reveal Gears Of War 4 With Some Gameplay Footage

We all knew it was coming; at their conference Microsoft announce Gears of War 4 in style by showing actual gameplay. Nice! The first thing to note is that Marcus Fenix and co are gone, replaced by at least two new characters. The second thing that becomes obvious is that the tone of the game seems to be aiming to go back to the series more horror/action roots than the much more bombastic, vibrant style of Gears of War 2 and 3. The downside to this is that the gameplay we saw was incredibly dark, to the point where I struggled to make out what was going on most of the time. In terms of gameplay it was…lackluster. It seemed to play exactly like the previous games, even down to the pacing. Since I do really like the Gears of War series I am genuinely quite happy to simply get upgraded graphics, but the critic in me was hoping to see bring something new to the table. Microsoft also confirmed the existence of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, a 1080p, 60fps remaster of the original Gears of War coming to Xbox One on August 25th. Gears of War 4 is set to arrive during 2016.

Fallout 4 Has No Level Cap, And No Real End

Here’s an interesting little tid-bit of information; Bethesda have confirmed via their Twitter account that Fallout 4 doesn’t end when the main storyline does, allowing you to continue playing. Better yet, there’s no level cap, so you can simply keep going forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and…look, you get the point. To fans who’ve asked: Fallout 4 doesn’t end when the main story is and over and there is no level cap. You can keep playing and leveling. — BethesdaGameStudios (@BethesdaStudios) August 6, 2015 Presumably you’ll eventually run out of stuff do, though, unless there’s some procedural generation going on that keeps spitting out random little quests, which would mean theoritcally a die-hard fan could just keep playing infinately. Well, until they die, anyway. Maybe they could pass the mission on to their kids. Maybe their could be generations raised to simply play Fallout 4. Maybe I’m overthinking it and getting carried away.

Star Wars: Battlefront To Have Microtransactions?

Eurogamer recently held a short and interesting interview with a member of DICE regarding their forthcoming Star Wars: Battlefront title. The interview wasn’t interesting because of how much information was revealed, though, but rather because of how evasive and completely generic it was. After fending off a question regarding why AT-ATs were on rails by claiming that having them otherwise would be game breaking, Eurogamer attempted to ask why there wouldn’t be any space battles. DICE immediately turned evasive, setting the stage for the rest of the interview. “We’re two generations on from the last Battlefront. Our goal was to hit all the core mechanics of the series. So the fantasy for us was to be able to engage in a dogfight, be in the cockpit of an X-Wing or TIE Fighter. And you can absolutely do that.” Eurogamer tried again by asking if space battles would come in the future and whether the Frostbite engine could do it, to which DICE were again evasive. However, their desire to avoid numerous topics has seemingly revealed an interesting snippet of information. Moving on to DLC Eurogamer began asking whether a season pass would be implemented, but were told that DICE weren’t talking about that yet. Eurogamer then quizzed them about microstransactions, to which DICE replied, “Again, we’re not talking about any DLC. Just what we’re showing at E3.” Eurogamer pushed them again, commenting that Microtransactions weren’t DLC. DICE replied again, “We’re not talking about that today.” Now, it’s very possible this is just a blanket statement regarding not commenting on DLC of any sort, but it reads much more like microtransactions are in fact going to be in the game, otherwise DICE would surely have just denied it. The wording strong implies their existence, and that they’ll be revealed much later. Most likely it seems, at least to me, that the game will include a variation of the Battlepack system seen in other EA titles like Mass Effect 3 and just recently Battlefield: Hardline.

Batman: Arkham Knight Will Finally Get “Interim” PC Patch In The Next Few Weeks

The launch of Batman: Arkham Knight on PC was one of the biggest PR disasters in quite some. While the game ran well on consoles the PC version was plagued by problems, including being locked to 30fps, horrendous performance, low-resolution textures and much, much more. Following the game being pulled from sale on Steam until it was deemed to be of sufficient quality, Warner Bros. announced that with Rocksteady they were focusing entirely on getting the game fixed, meanwhile a different developer handled the creation of the ouright boring Bat-girl DLC. Rocksteady and Warner Bros. announced plans to release an “interim” patch in August that would hopefully bring the game up to at least a playable state. Today they’ve revealed that the patch is nearly ready and should be out in the coming two weeks, meaning they may miss their August window. According to them the patch will do the following: Reduced frame rate hitches Optimized system memory and VRAM usage Improved performance on all GPUs (requires the latest drivers) Min Spec AMD GPU is once again the Radeon HD 7870 2GB Added the ability to change settings for Max FPS to 30/60/90 Added toggles for Motion Blur, Chromatic Aberration, and Film Grain Added a “High” Texture Resolution value Added Texture Filtering option Added an Adaptive V-Sync option (NVIDIA only) Added VRAM Usage Meter Added Mouse Sensitivity Slider & Mouse Smoothing Option Fixed low resolution texture bugs Fixed hitches when running on mechanical hard drives (HDD) Warner said the above list is the priority, but they are also working on bringing the following: Skipping the boot up splash screens DLC/Season Pass content Additional updates such as Photo Mode

2013 Deadpool Game Being Ported To Xbox One And PS4

In a move clearly designed to capitalise on the popularity of the forthcoming Deadpool movie where Ryan Reynolds is set to don the sticky red and black suit Activision have announced plans to port the 2013 Deadpool videogame to Xbox One and PS4. It’ll arrive on November 20th as both a digital download and a physical release. The Deadpool game was fairly recently in the news when it somehow re-appeared on Steam for sale in JUly, following all Activison/Marvel games being pulled from the market due to an expired contract between the two companies. The game’s sudden reappearance on Steam coincided with the buzz being generated by the film. The game gets Deadpool’s character and humour spot-on. Sadly as an actual game it’s not that good. Still, it’ll be worth a buy if you’re a Deadpool fan or looking to get into the character and can accept a decidedly mediocre action game.

Day One Patch For Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 Is Bigger Than The Game Itself

According to the mighty Games Cabin Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 has a day one patch that’s somehow bigger than the game itself. The patch comes in at 7.7GB while the game itself is only 4.6GB. Uh, what? The discovery was made when the website pre-loaded the game.

If that wasn’t alarming enough news on its own Eurogamer have already put up a video that shows the game is a glitchy mess even with the day one patch. Furthermore review code still hasn’t been sent out, despite the game launching today.
Hopefully these signs are wrong and the game turns out to be a rousing success.
